Past Experience
Previously, Stan worked as a multi-level sports commentator for the Roxamore Sports Network and was a staff writer for the Carnegie Mellon University Athletic Department and Last Word on Sports, where he highlighted untold student-athlete stories and covered a Kansas City Chiefs beat, respectively.
College
Stan is a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University, attaining his Professional Writing degree with a minor in African & African American studies in May 2021.
In college, Stan was a five-year letterman on the CMU football team. His experience on the field gives him an athlete’s perspective when creating content for football and other sports, an advantage that not every journalist has. Stan’s athletic experience has also taught him how to stay poised under pressure, adapt to a quickly changing environment, work within a team and acutely focus on accomplishing goals.
Humble Beginnings
Stan has multiple years of live, digital and print experience covering professional and collegiate teams, but can trace back his journalistic beginnings to 2013 writing for his high school newspaper.
At every turn in his career, Stan’s work has consisted of pitching ideas, writing scripts and articles, analyzing live events, interviewing athletes and posting content on digital platforms under a strict deadline. Even when things get hectic, Stan stays composed and gets the job done.
Anecdote
As a former athlete turned sports journalist, Stan has a passion for telling athletes’ stories, allowing players to be more than just on-field statistics. He knows that he can use his skill set to provide a new perspective to sports that is athlete-friendly, yet critical, relying on research to deliver an informed, entertaining story. Stan loves that he covers sports for a living in his post-playing career because “when you do what you love, you’ll never work a day in your life”.
